ABSTRACT

The study was about effects of neurological problems on academic performance of pupils in selected primary schools in Adjumani District. The study's target population was teachers in primary schools and the method of sampling that was used was equal size cluster random sampling method using all a list of all teacher in each selected primary s.chool. A sample of50 teachers was drawn and the response rate.was 80% for the whole study. The study revealed that the most neurological problem observed among pupils was epilepsy followed by mental retardation whereas the major cause of neurological problems among pupils was reported to be disease. It was further revealed that most neurological problems among pupils were learning disabilities and epilepsy among pupils. The study went a head to uncover that the psychologically impaired pupils perform poorly in class due to the fact that pupils with neurological problems miss school oflen and this affects their academic performance. The study recommends that the government through the ministry of Health and ministry of education should concentrate on teaching people about Epilepsy since its observed to be affecting more of the pupils thus hampering their future in Education as well as prevention and treatment of diseases that are believed to be causing neurological problems among children.
